Description:
Skull and Crossbones is a sidescrolling Beat 'Em Up based on an arcade
game released by Atari Games in 1989, and then got released on the C64
in 1991. In the game you take the role of either One Eye or Red Dog,
two pirates on a quest to retrieve their booty from an evil wizard.
The arcade original, even if it was a pretty bad game, had some
neat features, like a simultaneous two player mode and a multi path
system that let you choose between three different paths at the end of
each level. You could even power up your sword by collecting booty.
These features have, however, been scrapped in the C64 version. The C64
does have a two player mode, but you have to take turns.
The C64 version of Skull and Crossbones is not what you'd call a
very playable game. The controls are slow and having to hold down the
firebutton for two to three seconds to turn around makes the game plain
weird and annoying. Fighting is done in the old fashioned C64 way,
press fire and move the joystick.

The Evil Sorcerer has captured several beautiful women, and your mission is to
rescue them and defeat the Sorcerer, who adopts various disguises throughout the
eight levels of this platform game. One Eye (and Red Dog if two people are
playing) must board pirate ships, explore a variety of lands, kill a lot of the
Sorcerer's henchmen, and collect lots of treasure in the process. Sword fighting
techniques will not take long to master, although finding the right methods for
dealing with some of the tougher henchmen will be a bit more tricky. The
graphics are colourful, although the music doesn't fit in well with the pirate
theme - and if you only have 64K of memory, you will only hear silence! Overall,
this is a fairly satisfactory game, although the scrolling is very jerky, and
the controls are slightly awkward.

Once upon a time, on a faraway planet, lived the harmonious people of
"Skweez". But one day, the vile Pitark with his hordes of Schnoreuls attacked
Skweez'Land. Quickly defeating the defensless skweezettes. As a last
humiliation, Pitark had Skweez 'Land contaminated with a blue Skweezticide,
forcing the Skweezettes to flee to the planet Refuznoid.
Many years later, Pitark died and the Skweezettes decided it was time to
decntaminate the 99 continents of Skweez'Land returning them to their
origional colour:Pink.
Skweek volunteered to attempt this difficult mission;indeed, the Schnoreuls
are very aggressive and Skweez'Land is a strange and dangerous planet.
