Description:
Many prisoners are being held in the dungeons of a mysterious castle, and you
must rescue them. You must explore nearly 100 levels, shooting doors to release
the prisoners, and finding keys to unlock other doors. There are also many
monsters to impede your progress, although if you have some prisoners with you,
they will be a bit easier to defeat. This is a Gauntlet clone and it's
unfortunately not a good one. The graphics are poor and the scrolling and
movement are jerky and slow, and the music on the menu is nothing special
either. All the dungeons look very similar, and the game lacks excitement.

Shadow dancer

Titolo originale:Shadow Dancer
Year: 1991 U.S. Gold/Sega
Genre: Arcade - Platform
Lang: English
Description:
Shadow Dancer is the sequel to Shinobi. The plot is set to America,
where a group of terrorists have hijacked a shuttle from a secret
government project and intend to use it for their criminal plans. So,
as usual, it's up to you to stop the evil terrorists and bring
reassurance to the world. In order to do this you have to go through a
number of missions, from an airport, where the terrorists have placed
time-bombs, to their secret cave-hideout, and finally to where the
shuttle is being hidden. All this in a pretty impressive 15 levels of
shoot-em-up action..
the graphics are pretty good, varied, colourful, detailed and has an excellent
parallax scrolling which gives the game a great look. In fact all of the
presentation aspects of the game are very good, with nice intro screens and even
an animated end sequence.
All these things make Shadow Dancer sound like an excellent game, which
unfortunately isn't. There are a few things which spoil the overall
image of the game. One of these, is the lack of restart points. Lose a
life, and you 're back to the start of the level.

Description:
Joe Musashi returns to fight more crime on the streets of America. One of your
students, Kato, has been murdered, and not only that, but the Sauros are
threatening to blow up a US space shuttle. You must prevent this from happening,
and avenge Kato's death. Throughout the game, you are accompanied by your dog
Yamoto, who seems to be totally invulnerable to any enemy fire. You have an
unlimited supply of shurikens to throw at enemies, and you can also use magic to
kill every enemy on the screen, although you can only use this a few times. The
graphics are big and colourful, but the sound is rather limited and the music on
the menu is irritating. The game itself is great to play, and having six credits
and four lives with each credit is wonderful.

Shadow knights

Titolo originale:Shadow Knights
Year: 1990 Softdisk
Genre: Arcade - Platform
Description:
As a ninja with a mission to "redeem Naipusan, the once
peaceful land that was destroyed by the northern armies", you have to defeat the
evil Shogun of Death.
Shadow Knights is a platform game where you try to complete several levels,
such as a village, a cemetery or a castle, before confronting the final boss. On
each level, you'll encounter a lot of enemies - initially dogs and
ninjas with clubs and bows, but more types of enemies appear later.
To defeat them, you can slash at them with your sword. However, your ninja
also has magic powers. He can spend this magical energy to toss magical
projectiles at the enemies, or to restore his health. Depleted magical
energy can be refilled by collecting golden spheres scattered
throughout the levels.

Shadow of the beast
Hardware: C64
Visualizza
Titolo originale:Shadow of the Beast
Year: 1990 Ocean/Psygnosis
Genre: Arcade - Platform
Lang: English
Disks: 2
Description:
the evil Beast Lord has been ruling the land for many years. You (the
hero), while born a normal human being, fell into the hands of the
Beast Lord's servants, and they mutated you (with a bizarre ritual or
something) into a strange sort of goat-man, in order to produce the
perfect warrior. You have served the Beast Lord for quite a while, and
forgotten all about your human past. Until now that is, because your
parents were brutally murdered into the Necropolis' sacrificial temple,
making you remember all about it. Thus begins your adventure, in which
you must travel all over the land, seeking vengeance and ultimately
defeating and dethroning the Beast Lord. Unfortunately, all of the
Lord's minions, demons etc have been informed about your intentions,
and they aren't very happy about it.
Originally a big hit in 16-bits machines, this ambitious conversion
came quite late on the C64 and in cartridge only. In the Amiga, it
featured amazing graphics and was techically brilliant, so, many people
doubted whether the C64 version would be any good. Nevertheless, Ocean
went on with it, and with the help of the cartridge format's more
powerful technology (and instant loading), produced this cool game.
Technically, it's astounding. Featuring amazing parallax scrolling,
some huge sprites, great animation, and a perfect replica of the
original's haunting music, it uses the C64's capabilities to great
effect. So, what about the game ? Well, it's not up to the same
standards, but good nonetheless. What we have here, is a beat-em-up
with some arcade-adventure bits (like some switches to activate, or
weapons to find). There's also a lot of mapping to be done, especially
in the underground complex, and in the Necropolis Castle.

a very high quality, and combined with the detailed monochrome graphics this is
a very eerie, yet appealing game.

While very young, Aarbron was kidnapped and enslaved by the Priests of
the Beast Lord. He grew up on drugs made to destroy his own will and
turn him into the Beast Messenger, a powerful creature serving
Maletoth, The Beast Lord himself. He did his job, until one day he
noticed a man about to be sacrificed in a ritual, his face triggering
ancient memories... and as the sacrificial knife descended into the
man's body, Aarbron recognizes the face. Of his father.
As his father dies in the altar, memories of his childhood and
tormented past at the hands of the Beast Lord emerged, and as feelings
of hate over his captors took over him, he swore revenge and fled the
temple, knowing the road to avenge his father and redemption would be
hard.
