By clicking on ‘Go’the campaign starts and a window containing
a situation report comes up - that report differs from the chosen year.
Next you catch sight of a map of theStates of America – that map reminds a little
bit of the Cinemaware
and also here the player has to move his armies from state to state.
Unlike to the 16 bit versions here you can only move the pointer from
zone to zone and not over the whole screen – but because on the C64 you
make use of a joystick (or the keyboard) this isn’t a drawback but
rather an advantage...
A Call to Arms...
Now the real action starts: goal of the game is to defeat all
troops of the enemy. Each army consists of infantry, cavalry and
artillery – by moving the pointer on a soldier icon, you’re able to see
its detailed structure of military strength. To move the respective
army press the fire button – now the territories which surround your
position begin to flash. Next move the pointer to the desired
destination and press the fire button again – after that the army
marches to the chosen state immediately...
The player’s also able to unite armies – all he has to do is to
move one army onto a second allied army. Now the capacity of infantry,
cavalry and artillery has been doubled! In case you don’t want to move
all of your armies, just click on the date register and your turn
ends...

Your objective is ensure victory for your side (North or South) by
eliminating allthe enemy armies. You will be controlling armies across
all the combat zones of the Civil War. You may respect history or not,
as you like.
While "North & South" does not try to reconstitute history and places
playability over realism, INFOGRAMES has made every attempt to emulate
the atmosphere and overall strategic conditions of the Civil War. Thus,
as in reality, the player may choose to advance deep into the South or
North, to attack in the centre or to attempt a turning movement.
The Game And Historical Accuracy:
As has been stated above, INFOGRAMES has above all tried to privilege
gameplay rather than strict historical accuracy. Our wish has been to
recreate the atmosphere to be found in the comic book series. You will
therefore find some game details which do not respect historical
reality, notably in the case of borders, the positions of towns and
the railroad.
We hope that these modifications will ensure a great deal of playing
pleasure.

Description:
Game is set in USA suffering from civil war and there are four
scenarios to choose from. Differences are only slight. You can choose
to play either CSA or Union army, fighting each other. Your goal is
obvious, to eliminate forces of the other side. There aren’t many
options, you can choose whether Indians and Mexicans will matter, if
weather will have any influence on battle, and if Europeans have
decided to intervene. Also there are three settings of difficulty, but
the game is easy against computer opponent anyway.
When you fight battles, the game switches into action mode, in which
you can command your troops in real time. There are three types of
units - cavalry, infantry and artillery. As always, each of them has a
specialty, but they are all equally dangerous to your units, while
artillery is probably too powerful.
When you decide to conquer one of the 5 forts, each positioned on
the end of a railway, or when you decide to stop money shipment, the
game will switch into yet another arcade mode. If you want to complete
it successfully, then you have to reach end of train/fort before time
will run out, which will be complicated by all sorts of obstacles and
enemy soldiers.

Description:
The North Star project involved building a gigantic food factory, orbiting above
Earth and feeding its population. However, just as the project was nearly
complete, aliens took over the factory - typical, huh? You have seen sent to
the factory to kill the aliens and restore the life support systems. The action
takes place over nine horizontally scrolling levels, each filled with platforms
and aliens. It's standard fare, really, and the levels are rather short, but
the aliens are just too hard to avoid, and the merest contact with any of them
costs you one of your four lives. The graphics and music are both unbelievably
spectacular, but the difficulty level severely mars what could have been a
rather good game.

Description:
The Northstar space station has been overrun by aliens, with all reports
suggesting that the crew didn't survive. It's your job to progress through its
floors, wipe out the aliens and restore order.
What this entails is essentially a case of walking from left to right taking out
everything you see. You are armed with a lance, which you can use from some
distance, although you can only attack in one direction at a time, although
aliens can come at you from all around, many of them using some wicked patterns.
There are ledges to be climbed; the lance can be used to hoist your way up.
