Ghostbusters 2
Hardware: C64     Visualizza

Titolo originale:Ghostbusters II

Year: 1989 Activision
Genre: Arcade - Misc
Lang: English

Description:

The river of slime under the city of New York gained consciousness and
a painting of an medieval, but purely evil magician Vigo controls it.
It's time to call somebody again...

Unfortunately, as much as I enjoy Ghostbusters (being a true fan)
and as much as I was looking forward to this game, it is a complete
letdown!

The opening starts really nicely. You get to see digitalized
pictures from the movie and although the picture is pixelated it was
more than just passable for the time being. Then after you've been told
what was going on you get to play out an action sequence... so you are
put in the role of a movie character. You need to collect a sample of
the slime.

Titolo originale:Ghostbusters II

Year: 1990 Activision
Genre: Arcade - Misc
Lang: English
Disks: 2
Version: Commercial, OCS, PAL, WHD

Description:

Five years later, the Ghostbusters have discovered a huge tunnel of slime
running through the old Van Horne pneumatic transit line underneath the
city. This time, it's mood slime feeding off bad vibes, meanness,
rudeness, and general ill-will that permeates the city. This river of slime
is flowing directly to the Manhattan Museum of Art, resident headquarters
of Vigo, the Scourge of Carpathia. Trapped inside a portrait, this
legendary blood-thirsty tyrant from the Middle Ages is impatiently waiting
for the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve. Then he will emerge, drawing
together all the evil potency of the slime to unleash a reign of terror
upon an unsuspecting world.

So, who ya gonna call this time... ? The Ghostbusters! Join them in a
precarious, paranormal-filled dangle above the Van Horne tunnel on a
slime-scooping mission. March with the Statue of Liberty down Broadway on
her way to the Museum, dodging ghosts of every description. And, if you can
make it through these ghoulish gauntlets, face Vigo in his lair and slime
him into submission and out of commission - forever.

----------

I Ghostbusters!

Titolo originale:Ghostbusters II

Year: 1988 Activision
Genre: Arcade - Multi-Event
Lang: English
Disks: 1
Version: Commercial, key

Description:

Pretty closely based on the movie of the same name, Ghostbusters II has
some of the best graphics and sound you'll ever see or hear on the CPC. From the
intro screen to the digitised scenes straight from the movie to the gorgeous
levels, the graphics are simply awesome, and the spooky sound effects and
spot-on version of the Ghostbusters theme tune complement the graphics nicely.
There are only three levels, which is disappointing, but the sheer difficulty of
the first level, which sees you descending down a manhole to investigate a river
of slime, means you'll have to be a gaming god to see the other two levels -
which are awesome.

Titolo originale:Ghostbusters II

Year: 1989 Activision
Genre: Action

Description:

There are actually two games with the exact same title; you might call
this one the secret alternative. Even most Ghostbusters fans have no
idea this one ever existed and it's really hard to find.

The game tries to follow the movie, and the storyline goes roughly like this:

Five years after our heroes saved the world from the invasion of an old
Mesopotamian deity Gozer, (and blew up a 30 stories tall Marshmallow
Man), an ex-girlfriend of one of the 'Busters is returning home with
her baby. But the wheel of the baby-carriage gets dipped in some pink
slime and it starts driving on its own. Dana (the girl) decides to call
on her friend, the Ghostbuster, to find out what happened, after which
they decide to dig a huge hole in the middle of the road. What they
discover is an underground river of Slime, but at the same time they
knock out the electricity in the entire Manhattan area... and are sued
by the city.

And this is where this game picks up. First you must bust the two
Scallarry brothers, who want to take their revenge on the judge who
gave them the chair. Succeed or not you’ll proceed to the Ghostbusters
office. Here there are several things to do. Like in the real classic
Ghostbusters (for C64) from 1984 money IS an issue. You start with a
$10.000 debt. To make money you must answer the phone and… (surprise,
surprise) bust ghosts. You must also collect some slime and test it,
because this slime will come in really handy. If you’ve seen the movie
you know that this is good-mood slime and it gives the Statue of
Liberty get-up-and-go because it (the slime - not the statue) really
loves Jackie’s: (Your love’s lifting me) Higher and Higher!

But be careful! If you fail to bust a ghost or get trapped in the
river of slime, you’ll end up in the nuthouse, and the rest of the team
will have to bust you out (this part of the game is really the most
original, because it’s quite different from the movie)!

So, can you stop the Scorge of Karpathia, the Sorrow of Moldavia – Lord VIGO?!

Titolo originale:Ghosts 'n Goblins

Year: 1986 Elite
Genre: Arcade - Platform (scrolling screen)
Lang: English

Description:

This is Elite's conversion of the popular arcade game. It has your
character Mr. Knight, clad in only a brown pair of underpants and a
suit of armour, racing through the Demon King's domain in order to
rescue his captured damsel in distress.

The game comprises eight different areas each full of evil
creatures which must be shot or avoided. You have three minutes to pass
though each area, and failure to do so results in the loss of a life.
The first time Mr Knight comes in contact with an enemy of their
bullets, he loses his armour, and continues in his pants. One more hit
and another life is lost. Initially, Mr Knight is armed with unlimited
lances, but other weapons and suits of armour can be picked up along
the way. Other weapons include fire, swords, hatchets and shields.

The game has some excellent and varied backdrops. The sprites too are really
clearly defined. The sound makes this game.

Titolo originale:Ghosts 'N' Goblins

Year: 1987 Capcom U.S.A.
Genre: Action - Arcade

Description:

our hero Arthur was enjoying the time with his beloved princess Prin
Prin - originally he made himself comfortable, sitting in his underwear
beside the princess near a graveyard (?!) and you can see the castle on
the distant mountain. Suddenly a horrible demon appears and kidnaps the
princess. Arthur puts his armor on and begins his quest. He has to go
through the graveyard and the forest, to pass the ancient city of
Camelot, enter the caves and go across the fire lake into the hart of
the mountain. Then he has to reach the highest chamber of the castle
where the evil lord is keeping his beloved Prin Prin. He will have to
fight various sorts of hellish creatures: demons, witches, dragons,
flying and non-flying creatures... But at the very beginning, where you
run through the graveyard jumping over the graves while zombies are
coming out from the ground is something that the game is remembered by.

first of all the game is not scrolling like the original but you progress through the screens

Considering the time it has been published, EGA graphics sound
unbelievable but not even the graphics are satisfying. There are too
few sprites of the enemies, preventing any sort of a felling that the
game should give you, except perhaps some disappointment. Most of the
times the creatures are animated using only one or two sprites. The
situation gets somewhat better with the bosses enemies at the end of
the level, which is expected. The background looks fine, but there are
still lots of simplified solutions. Just like EGA itself should be
enough. The looks of our hero and of the monsters are not convincing
and the age of the game is no justification for this. You'll find some
CGA games with creatures looking much more impressive. As for the
simple solutions, there is only one sprite for each weapon, so weapons
are always turned to right even when you shoot to the left.
Unbelievable!

As for the bugs the most irritating one is the collision detection
with objects that you can stand on. If you are in the middle of a jump
and are falling narrowly, don't fall near the edge of objects or
platforms because you will most likely fall through them. This means
that you can fall into a grave or fall through the ground or a
platform. There is also no way to go down. If you touch the bottom of
the screen, you'll immediately loose a life. There is a big mansion in
the city of Camelot where you have to climb a few floors up in the
original version in order to find the way to proceed. Here you must
simple go on through the wall skipping that important and interesting
part of the game. No need to go up and if you do, you can't go down
again. Why did they make the upper levels then anyway? The already
mentioned platforms on the third level are harder to stand on because
of this, so combined this with the non-challenging ability to simply
move on above them, it seems that you fight with bugs more than with
your in-game enemies.

Description:

Secret documents belonging to NATO have been stolen by another country, and you
have been parachuted into the jungles of that country, along with Killer, your
dog. However, you have become separated from Killer, so you must find him first,
and then you need to find the heavily armed enemy camp and the helicopter base.
You also have a cypher which receives satellite communications, and a torch for
seeing in the caves, and you'll need to pick up magazines to refill your gun.
Most of your time is spent trudging around the jungles and the underground
caves, and shooting any soldiers that cross your path, and before long, the game
becomes boring. Furthermore, it's an ugly Spectrum port, and the text is
