Tynesoft were almost certainly the first people to try a first person
pinball game with this ambitious program. Up to four players could join
in, including 2 computer players to show you how it's done. The game
can be played from a more traditional overhead-view mode, which makes
it easier to tell where the bumpers are in relation to the flippers,
and is recommended for learning the game. Most of those bumpers are
single-colour and arranged in a straightforward pattern. There are
three different gameplay speeds and 2 possible levels of ball bounce.

Description:
First Samurai is an arcade platformer with a very smooth scrolling
screen. It features an innovative energy system in which you lose your
weapon once your energy drops below a certain point. After that you
will have to fight your way through hordes of enemies using your fist
only. Once you get collect enough hit points you get your weapon back.
The level design is interesting. The fact that our hero can climb almost
anything like a cockroach makes the game somewhat non-linear. How can a
samurai climb 90-degree walls like that is beyond me though. There are
a lot of things to explore, a lot of baddies to kill and a lot of traps
to avoid.
The graphics are top-notch. The sprites are beautifully drawn and
animated, the backgrounds are colourful and interesting. The intro
music (by the great Wally Beben) is also very good. There is no in-game
music, only sound effects which are above average.

In un antico piccolo villaggio giapponese, Lord Akira e il suo giovane samurai
prelevavano le tasse dai contadini locali, quando il re demone scese dalla
montagna.
Il villaggio fu distrutto, tutti gli abitanti uccisi, con particolare
attenzione al signore dei guerrieri.
Quindici minuti dopo, il giovane samurai era da solo con Lord Domon.
'Digli di me, digli che io sono pronto a rimettere a posto tutto quello
che è mio. Digli che il vero maestro è tornato...'.
In una fredda mattina, il giovane samurai giura vendetta per il suo deceduto
maestro.
Per anni le brave persone delle colline hanno combattuto il demone come meglio
non potevano, fino a quando giunse dal mare un Mago che sfidò il demone.
Loro combatterono duramente e lungo la cima delle montagne del re demone,
luci e fuochi tenevano la notte ardente fino a quando quando il demone, per paura
di essere sconfitto, fuggi nel tempo.
Il demone saltò nel futuro dove la gente aveva dimenticato la magia e dove
non avrebbe trovato nessuno ad ostacolarlo.
Le brave persone erano salve, ma per il giovane samurai non c'era riposo,
per la sua anima non c'era riposo fino a che non avesse vendicato il suo
maestro.
Così prego il mago di mandarlo nel futuro per riportare indietro il re demone
così che potesse essere distrutto ai piedi di questa sua montagna trono.
Questo era iniziato.

The First Samurai is an arcade platformer, full of action, in which
you guide your hero through time – visiting different worlds, mystical
to futuristic - on his quest for revenge. Even if the story might not
be that original, the great gameplay balances this out very well and
provides a bunch of nice innovations.
You control your samurai using the keyboard. You walk, crouch, jump
and climb with the cursor keys, and by combining them with space bar,
several effective attacks can be performed. As long as the samurai is
not holding his sword, you defend yourself with punches and kicks which
strike into different directions, but don’t worry, you’re also going to
find weapons soon enough. There are daggers and axes, for instance ,
that can be thrown towards your enemies. The most important weapon is
your magical sword, though. It is not only supporting you in
encounters, it is also part of a clever energy system. I will come back
to this later on.

The Seven Deadly Fins is the most dangerous group of inter-
dimensional anarchists around. They live up to their name in
every respect. There are seven of them, they are deadly and
have been seen with fins. This septic septet will stop at
nothing to destroy all forms of life as we know it.
We have one small chance. Operatives can be trained in a
technique known as warping and can beat the Seven Deadly
Fins at their own game. It is through this process that the
Fins carry out their crimes. It may be deduced why this
technique is important.
This dossier contains instructions on warping for trainee
operatives and all the information currently available on the
Seven Deadly Fins. If further details are required, contact

a.k.a. "Esploding Fist +"
As with IK+, the main addition of this Way of the Exploding Fist
follow-up is a third player during the bouts - unlike IK+ all 3 can be
human-controlled. A similar range of moves is offered to the
predecessor, including attacking and defensive moves, and the moves
vary in their value in terms of the points they offer within the fight,
and the points they add to your score.
You start off as a rookie; to reach the first of the 10 Dans you must win 2 bouts before
either of your opponents. Each bout is win by scoring 6 points, or by
having the top score after 60 seconds. Finish last in any bout and you
are out.
After every two rounds, a bonus game is played, which
sets you in a darkened alleyway shooting at a succession of ninja
heads, scoring points for each until you miss one.
