Death rally
Hardware: PC
Visualizza
Titolo originale:Year: 1996 Apogee Software - GT Interactive
Genre: Action - Racing/Driving
Version: DOS
Description:
Death Rally is a top-down racing game where the player can rely
on more than speed to be the number one, and brains must be riding
along brawn to get the most from each race.
Starting with only $495 and a lowly car, the player must compete in one of three races
(picked from 19 tracks) with increasingly difficult opponents but
higher rewards, getting enough money to buy new cars, choosing from six
models, and enhance them with one to four upgrades for engine (increase
top speed), tires (improve traction, allowing to drift less on turns)
and armor (reduces the damage caused by opponents, mines or
collisions). But there are more ways to spend money by reaching the
underground market where the player can buy land mines (can be dropped
to get opponents directly behind or create traps in narrow sections),
get some rocket fuel (which increases boost speed greatly at the
expense of some damage for both the user car and the ones directly
behind) or bribe a mechanic to mess around with the best-ranked
opponent car. All these upgrades are valid for one race only.

Titolo originale:Year: 1988 Epyx
Genre: Arcade - Beat'em up
Lang: English
Disks: 1
Version: ST, supports joystick
Description:
The concept is simple enough. Two muscle-bound barbarians battle to the death in
front of a variety of backdrops. One or two may play, although in the one-player
game, your final opponent has magic powers which greatly surpass your own physical
strength. This simplicity spawns the main drawback of the game. Once it is
mastered--which should take no more than a week--there is little to merit its
continued occupancy of your disk drive. But what a week you will have!
The control interface is exceedingly complex and hard to master. There are 16
joystick moves, ranging from a simple head hurt to the intricate "web of death."
Just trying to remember the correct combination of stick movements and button
activation which results in a given attack or defense is a nearly insurmountable
task, even though the moves are arranged more or less logically on the stick. It's
better to find a few favorites and use them regularly.

Death sword
Hardware: PC
Visualizza
Titolo originale:Year: 1988 Epyx
Genre: Action - Fighting
Version: DOS
Description:
Death Sword is a PC conversion of "Barbarian", a
huge hit at the end of the 80's.
Two powerful warriors with their swords fighting one against the other.
Characters in the game were big and able to perform many moves and
attacks. Barbarian> was published in the times when epic
movies and comics were quite popular and it was more than obvious what
was the inspiration for this game.
There were two versions that both carried the same name, and their
gameplay was identical. In one of them, you fight beside some sort of
lake and in the woods, but the other has a different story. The evil
wizard Zack has kidnapped a beautiful princess, and it will take a real
hero to save her. You must defeat eight of Zack's warriors and then
Zack himself in his own castle and rescue the princess. What better
story do you need? Well, if anyone finds this story similar to the
first part of "Conan the Barbarian "(starring Arnold Schwarzenegger) he's not wrong.
The main music theme sounds like the theme from the same movie.
Notes:
The PC conversion is no match for the C64 original, but it's fun to
play. The graphics and music are good considering the limitations of
CGA and PC speakers, but the sound effects consist merely of a few
beeps. The controls are the biggest problem and were created to model a
joystick. Like in many other conversions, you once again meet with
eight buttons ("U", "I", "O", "J", "K", "N", "M", ",") and left Shift
as fire. If you don't have a joystick, you'll probably find this game
too hard to play due to the controls.

Description:
New York's streets are overrun with gangs, and the police can't handle it, so
the chief has done a deal with vigilante Paul Kersey and allowed him to go and
kill as many gang members as he can. You play Paul in this rather violent game,
based on the equally violent film of the same name. You wander the streets with
a variety of guns, scoring points for killing gang members, but losing points
for killing policemen and little old ladies. You also need to raid apartments to
find more weapons and locate the gang leaders and kill them. As already
mentioned, this is a violent game, with bodies being graphically torn apart and
blood flowing everywhere when you shoot anyone with the rocket launcher.
However, the game doesn't have much depth.

Titolo originale:Year: 1989 Activision
Genre: Action - Racing/Driving
Input: joystick, mouse and key
Graphics: CGA, EGA, Herculers, Tandy
Sound: Adlib, PC Speaker, Roland
Version: DOS
Description:
Death Track is a pretty strange game: it's graphics are very primitive
VGA sprites coupled with basic vector graphics like those in the first
MechWarrior, sufficient for gameplay but quite ugly anyway. The SFX are
barely existent and the music consists of two or three very similar
tunes whose repetitiveness begins to get on your nerves within a few
minutes from starting the game.
The basic premise is pretty simple - be the first one to finish the race,
over dead bodies of your enemies if neccesary - but that's one of the things
that make Death Track so enjoyable.
